Dear Colleague,
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has advertised its first position for a “Structured Mission in Obstetrics and Gynaecology”. The position is for an experienced obstetrician and gynaecologist, confident in mentoring a clinical team and supporting local capacity building. The candidate should be familiar with quality improvement and clinical audit. Supporting clinicians in developing their clinical care, alongside management and leadership skills. The placement is for 12 months (with holidays), starting April 2022. It will begin with 6 months in central Sierra Leone supporting a team in a district referral centre that receives complex cases, often arriving very late with obstetric emergencies. Alongside improving clinical and surgical care, a key component will be supporting maternal death and near miss reviews, using root cause analysis with the team to identify lessons and build an improvement plan. After 6 months the candidate will have the opportunity to work in a different location or to continue building on their work in Sierra Leone. This is an exciting opportunity to work with MSF in places where access to essential obstetric care is limited. Support local clinicians to provide life-saving care and to become medical leaders with skills in clinical governance and quality improvement. The application can be found in English and French. The window for application is narrow, closing on December 17th 2021. We are hopeful this will be the first of many structured missions focusing on improving maternal health to some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. All the best, Benjamin Benjamin Black |
