I am writing to invite you to provide names of leaders from your Society that you would strongly recommend for membership of one of our committees. As you will be aware, our committees are an integral part in the success of FIGO in improving the health and wellbeing of women around the globe.

FIGO relies on leaders to achieve our Mission to elevate the status of women’s health, reduce disparities in health care for women and advance the science and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology through education, global research, advocacy and capacity-building.

This year we presented a new Strategic Plan to Trustees and FIGO Council – this will be shared in detail with our Member Societies at the World Congress in October 2021.

A critical element in achieving our Mission and Goals is the work of our committees. It is essential that we have continuity and communication for our long-term success. I have committed to supporting our committees when I become President in October 2021, to improving collaboration and doing anything I can to help all of us achieve the goals and commitments of our Strategic Plan.

As part of that commitment, I am working to ensure geographic and gender diversity across our committees, and that as many countries as possible are involved in the important work of our committees. Although we have roughly 8–10 members on each Committee, we only have turnover of about 50 percent of them before each Congress. We will therefore be looking to fill 4–5 seats in most committees.

If we already have someone from your region on a specific Committee, then your nominee unfortunately cannot be considered for selection to that committee – our apologies for this, but you will understand our reasons.

You may wish to check directly with FIGO to identify current committee members. If so, please contact Alexandra Gilpin at alexandra@figo.org. Alternatively, you can view current committee members on the FIGO website.
